In 1923, Harry Kent and Edgar Worthington combined their finances and names to found the Kenworth Truck Company in Seattle. By 1927, sales had surged and Kent emerged as President. To boost productivity, he moved the firm to this larger factory at 1263 Mercer Street. Kenworth operated here until 1946, when it took over an even larger plant previously run by the FIsher Body Company in Tukwila, WA. In 1929, Kenworth also opened a branch manufacturing facility in Vancouver, BC.
