Building History

According to Gebhard and Winter, this church "...was inspired by the Mother Church in Boston." (See Gebhard and Winter, Los Angeles, An Architectural Guide, [Salt Lake City, UT: Gibbs Smith, Inc., 1994], p. 269.) Gebhard and Winter put the dates between 1905-1910.

Building Notes

Albert Carey (A.C.) Martin, Sr., (1879-1960) acted as the structural engineer for the dome, which was reputedly the largest poured-concrete example in the world at the time of its construction.

Alteration

Architect Elmer Grey (1871-1963) designed several churches for the Christian Scientists between 1910-1923, including buildings in Los Angeles, CA, Long Beach, CA, and Palo Alto, CA. He designed an addition containing Sunday school rooms in 08/1923 for the 2nd Church of Christ, Scientist.
