The Seattle Electric Company's Fremont Substation was one of the earliest of seven electrical substations built between 1901-1915. In 2005, it was the only one remaining, but was not deemed historic by the Seattle Landmarks Board. A number of preservationists hoped to save it as a site demonstrating the history of early electrical production in Seattle.
