This Baptist congregation formed in 1870, and held its early services in the Spadra School between 1870-1883. It became known formally as the "Spadra Baptist Church" in 1881. The first First Baptist Church of Pomona was erected in 1883, at South Park Avenue and West 4th Street in Pomona. According to a church history, "Gifts for this effort were so generous it was necessary to announce that no more money was needed." (See "Church History,"Accessed 12/12/2013.)
