Long Beach-based architectural firm, Killingsworth, Stricker, Lindgren, Wilson and Associates (KSLW), produced the design for the Marriott Palm Desert and Convention Center.

The J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort was bounded by Hovley Lane East on the south, Lost River Drive on the east, Portola Avenue on the west, and Country Club Drive on the north. It was set in a neighborhood of golf resorts in Palm Desert; the Desert Falls Country Club was situated to the northeast, the Lakes Country Club to the east. The Desert Willow Golf Resort was located due north, across Country Club Drive. In 2013, the hotel advertised that it had eight floors, 833 rooms and 51 suites. For conventions, it maintained 29 meeting rooms and 210,000 square feet of meeting space.

The hotel lobby was renovated before 2013.
