Edward Charles ("Chuck") Bassett (1921-1999) designed this 38-story office tower, originally commissioned by the Crocker National Bank as its San Francisco headquarters. Bassett planned that the 499-foot-tall Crocker Bank Building would have a lobby that opened onto the Crocker Galleria (1982), a three-story shopping arcade located next door. Wells Fargo and Company took over the Crocker National Bank in 1986. In subsequent years, the skyscraper has been called the Pacific Telesis Tower and the Montgomery Tower.
