Overview

The Saint Louis architect Alfred Faist Rosenheim relocated to Los Angeles in early 1903 to design this office skyscraper for Herman W. Hellman of the powerful Hellman banking family.

Building History

The Herman W. Hellman House stood on this site before the erection of the eight-story H.W. Hellman Building.

Building Notes

In early 1904, a report issued by Los Angeles Fire Commission declared that the Hellman Building did not meet standards for fire escapes and standpipes.
