Dr. Joseph Wood Hill (b. 1856) opened this main school building in 09/1901. The building was located on Marshall Street between 24th and 25th Streets.
The wood frame building stood four stories high and had a large deck that wrapped around the second floor. The parapet line, like many armory buildings and military schools, was castellated to suggest its military purpose. A corner "observation" tower projected from one corner, its top also castellated. Shingles clad the upper floors of the building, while clapboards covered the deck and first floor. Large metal sash windows tilted out on the first floor.
