Wayne Nutting (d. 1969) worked as a mechanic and erected the Dahlia Motors Building in 1931. Nutting and his wife died when their modified Stanley Steamer auto exploded near Buena Park, CA, in 1969. The business passed to another mechanic La Dell Stapp, who maintained a mechanic's cooperative known as Stapp's Auto Shop at 1627 West Colorado Boulevard. Stapp operated the shop for many years before selling out to an noted artist/restaurateur, Kim Dingle, who opened a renowned local restaurant, Fatty's, in the space in 2000.
