The National Iron Works operated in 06/1890 at a location near the Howard Street Bridge. The National Iron Works said of its operation in 1890: "Have just placed in their machine shop a large bolt cutter, a three-tool, largest sized pulley lathe, a thirty-foot bed-shafting lathe. This shop is the best equipped in the Northwest. Shafting and pulleys furnished at Portland prices. Repair work done with dispatch and at reasonable rates."
