This Early Gothic Revival Style residence was very notable as its design was derived from a plan book written by architects Henry W. Cleaveland (1827-1919), William D. Backus and his brother, Samuel D. Backus, entitled Village and Farm Cottages. The Requirements of American Village Homes Considered and Suggested; with Designs for such Houses of Moderate Cost, (New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1856).
In 1912, The Peters House was moved from its original location at southeast 10th and Pearl to 1611 Lincoln Street.
