Northeast corner 3rd Avenue and Pike Street

The Bank for Savings operated in a retail space on the northeast corner of 3rd Avenue and Pike Street. On 04/17/1916, the Mortgage Trust and Savings Bank took over the space, which it had completely remodeled. (See "Bank Opens in New Location," Seattle Daily Times, 04/17/1916, p. 3.) The Mortgage Trust and Savings Bank was chartered in 1910, and it succeeded William P. Harper and Son, which was founded in 1892. In 1916, William P. Harper remained as President, with his son, Paul C. Harper, serving as Vice-President. It is likely that Harper saved costs by moving the Mortgage Trust and Savings Bank to a building he owned.
