This office building was in operation in 1900; Dr. A.T. Sanden, inventor of the Dr. Sanden Electric Belt, designed to enable wearers to regain lost strength, had an office in the Russel Building at this time. This remedy apparently sold well, as he also maintained an office in Seattle in the Washington Building at this time. According to an advertisement appearing the Seattle Times on 03/13/1900 the gruesome and unsafe looking electrified belt "...never yet has ... failed to cure a case of Rheumatism, Lumbago, Sciatica, Lame Back, Neuralgia, Varicocele, etc." (See "Regain Your Lost Strength," Seattle Daily Times, 03/13/1900, p. 8.)
