In 1901, Hoflus partnered with William Pigott and George J. Danz in the firm W.D. Hoflus and Company, a supplier of railroad supplies. He made his residence at 1519 East Madison Street on the edge of Capitol Hill and First Hill. Pigott would later found the Seattle Car Company, what became a leading manufacturer of railroad cars and, later, trucks.
