Building Notes

The Chatsworth Station of the Southern Pacific Railroad was a relatively simple Stick Style building, with a long hipped roof covering the first floor and a gable roof covering a two-story portion. This two-story section spanned about half the building's length. A roof overhang on the first floor sheltered travelers waiting for the train. Stickwork on the exterior was prominently expressed, like many railroad stations of an earlier era on the East Coast. At its opening, the depot also accommodated a Western Union telegraph office. Located at the northwest edge of the San Fernando Valley, the Southern Pacific provided service that connected Chatsworth to San Francisco, CA, 494 miles away.

Demolition

A fire destroyed the station in 1917.
