In 1901, the Independent Telephone Company had its main Seattle office on the northeast corner of 4th Avenue and Marion Street. The company formed to provide telephone service to those who were not satisfied with the service provided by the Bell Telephone Company's Sunset Telephone and Telegraph Company. It merged with Sunset in 1913.
