On 09/11/2005, a truck carrying payments to an IRS Payment Processing Center overturned, causing about 30,000 Form 1040 ES quarterly estimated tax payments to be thrown into the San Francisco Bay. This accident delayed the tax collection process for many on the West Coast that year.
