Overview
Seattle's first physician, David Swinson Maynard (1808-1873), opened this small, two-room hospital in what became the Pioneer Square Neighborhod c. 1860. It failed due to a lack of patients. Townspeople would not accept treatment in a facilities that treated both whites and American Indians.
