Andrew Pierce bequeathed five acres of land for the college in 1874, and it was set up soon thereafter. In 1886, there were six students taking coursework. It closed in the spring of 1897, replaced by the Pierce Joint Union High School which opened in the fall of that year. The high school operated until 1937, when it was replaced a facility in the town of Arbuckle, CA. (See "Pierce Christian College,"Accessed 07/05/2012.)
