Los Angeles Architect Norman W. Alpaugh (1885-1954) produced this design for the Town House, a hotel once considered one of the most fashionable in Los Angeles, CA.
The Town House, an exaggeratedly large, 156-foot high, Georgian town house, occupied a highly visible location, opposite Lafayette Park, at the eastern entrance to the Mid-Wilshire Corridor. According to Los Angeles County Assessor's records in 2012, the parcel on which the Town House sat (#5077-007-025) contained five improvements; these were the 172,472-square-foot Town House and four other buildings, including the retail building at 2969 Wilshire Boulevard which was connected to the Town House. Behind the Town House to the north along South Virgil Avenue, was a parking lot that had once functioned as a park. Lines for parking spots were applied over the lines for three tennis courts, and a basketball court. The rooms of the Town House lining South Commonwealth Avenue had views of Lafayette Park and Downtown Los Angeles.
