This branch of the J.C. Penney Chain, which opened in San Fernando, CA, in 1920, was set to close on 07/28/2012.

A reviewer to the web site Yelp, described the store on 01/04/2011: "The world smallest JCPenney's....We walked in and we could see the back of the first floor from the entrance. This is how small this store is, only 2 floors and no elevator, at least I didn't see one. The first floor was the women's, shoe, makeup and etc floor. All had it's own little section. The shoe dept was the size of my bathroom. Now to take the stairs down stairs, which was the men's, children's, cook wear and customer service. The cook wear dept was a cut out closet and a few select cook wear stacked on each other. I couldn't even have imagined this place during holiday shopping. I think the max allowance is 100 people. The staff is very friendly and helpful, parking is an issue and it's located in the San Fernando Mall area (not an actual mall, it's the name of street where there's a ton of ma & pa shops)." (See "Jessica C. Burbank, CA," Yelp.com,Accessed 06/25/2012.)

The front facade signage of the store looked to have been applied in the 1940s or 1950s.
