This building was threatened with demolition in 2012. The Madison Development Company agreed on 05/08/2012 to save the Timken Roller Bearing Building and the neighboring Melrose Building, and incorporate the two historic edifices into its new 7-story, 115,000-square-foot retail/residential building. This new development would be built behind and above portions of the Timken and Melrose Buildings. At this time, several businesses operated in first-floor retail storefronts including: Mud Bay, Edie's, Le Frock, Vutique, Scout, Wall of Sound, and Spine and Crown.
