This hotel was owned by the Massachusetts-born businessman, John Huntoon in 1890; Charles Morgan managed the Columbia House at this time. (See Polk's Seattle Directory, 1890, [Seattle: Polk's City Directory Company, 1890], p. 220.) Huntoon lived in Clallaam County in 1860 and 1870, but had moved to Seattle by 1889. He remained here in 1905, when he and his wife, Anna Hendrickson, had a child. By 1901, Andrew Young was the proprietor.

This first Columbia House Hotel was located at 222 Columbia Street. A later hotel by the same name was erected at 403 Columbia Street in 1913.
