In 1878, the publisher and aviation pioneer Frederick Marriott (c. 1805-1884) lived in this residence located between what would become San Francisco's North Beach and Russian Hill neighborhoods. Marriott published the San Francisco News Letter and California Advertiser and other publications between the 1850s-1880s.
