When viewed by bystanders c. 1905, the boxy Colonial Revival Bucklin House appeared a modern alternative to the formally and ornamentally complex Queen Anne Style of the previous two decades. The Bucklin house, covered by a hipped roof, had two stories plus an attic story lit by a Palladian window set in the center of a gabled dormer. Below the dormer, another Palladian window illuminated the hallway between upstairs bedrooms. A projecting trabeated porch--supported by two pairs of Ionic columns--sheltered the front door.
