The Los Angeles Herald published this notice about the Eliot House in its 11/15/1908 issue: "The Builder and Contractor reports among the architects as follows: Architect Fernand Parmentier, 538 Byrne building, is preparing the working drawings for a spacious two-story, attic and basement, 16-room frame and plastered residence to be built in Oak Knoll, Pasadena, for J. V. Eliot The first floor will contain besides the living and dining rooms, den and kitchen department, a billiard room 19x34 feet in size. The second floor will contain the bed chambers, with private baths, there being seven bath rooms in all. The servants' quarters will be in the attic. The basement will have storage rooms, hot-air heating apparatus, etc The house will have plastered exterior, plate glass windows, oak floors, finish in various hardwoods, several fireplaces and first class plumbing."
