Building History
This residence hall was named for Hugh Trowbridge Dobbins (born 08/13/1866 in Jackson, CA-d. 10/09/1943 in Contra Costa County, CA), a wealthy Presbyterian clergyman, and his wife, Roberta Lloyd Dobbins (05/16/1871 in MO-d. 03/13/1959 in Alameda County, CA).
Building Notes
Lloyd Dobbins Hall was part of the third campus of the San Francisco Theological Seminary, established in 1892 in San Anselmo, CA; this campus comprised 14 acres, set on a hilltop site. Dobbins Hall, an interfaith counseling center "indirectly affiliated with the seminary," was located on the northwest side of campus near the intersection of Austin Avenue and Kensington Road. (See San Francisco Theological Seminary.edu, "Campus Walking Tour," accessed 02/05/2019.)
In 1962, the San Francisco Theological Seminary affiliated itself with the Graduate Theological Union, a group of neighboring religious schools with its administrative headquarters located in Berkeley, CA.
