Anchor Jensen (d. 2000) operated the Jensen Motor Boat Company, which in the early 1950s, produced some of the fastest hydroplanes in the world. One, the Slo-mo-shun IV, driven by the legendary driver/owner Stanley S. Sayres (1896-1956) established a world speed record (160.3235 mph) for hydroplanes on 06/26/1950. The Slo-mo-shun IV was 28 feet in length and weighed 4,750 pounds, and utilized a surplus World War II Allison V-1710 airplane motor that could generate 1,500 horsepower. Sayres later smashed this record by attaining the speed of 178.497 in the same hydroplane-- then installed with a 2,000 horsepower engine--on 07/07/1952.
