Artemisia Vermilion (1834-1920) lived in this modern, country villa for about 20 years. The house had the more simplified massing of a modernized residence, one without the profusion of shapes, cladding materials and windows seen in Queen Anne architecture. A cross-gabled design, its front facade featured two large steep gables between which was the main entry. The entry porch was inset into the house, set amidst a first floor clad in ashlar masonry. Vermilion inherited wealth from a family hardware business operated in OH.
