Building History
This was the second home of the museum first known as the "Wing Luke Memorial Museum," for Wing Chong Luke (1925-1965), the State Assistant Attorney General from 1957-1962, the first Asian-American elected to public office in the State of WA. He was elected to the Seattle City Council in 1962, and served until his death in a small plane crash on 05/16/1965.
The Wing Luke Museum moved to this larger 7th Avenue South location in 1987. The building contained about 10,000 square feet, and was larger than its first building, a storefront on 8th Avenue South.
Alteration
This former commercial building was renovated for use by the museum in the mid-1980s.
