Piano merchant David Steele Johnston and his family lived in this 3-story, Shingle Style house c. 1900. The residence was notable for its use of gambrel roofs and a shed dormer. He continued to live at this address in 1906. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Tacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1906, p. 432.)
