This dam, built under the direction of Anthony Chabot (1813-1888), the President of the Contra Costa Water Company, stretched 450 feet long at its top (and 900 feet at its base) and 100 feet high. The dam would cost $500,000 to build and store 5 billion gallons in its reservoir for the City of Oakland.
