Created in 1867-1868 by Chinese immigrant labor, the first Temescal Creek Dam served the interests of Anthony Chabot (1813-1888) and his Contra Costa Water Company, founded in 1866. Chabot also had the San Leandro Creek Dam erected by 1870.
