The Bullock's Fashion Square, I. Magnin and Company, and Desmond's Department Stores opened to the public on 04/30/1962 at 9:30 AM. A group of 31 new mall stores and "La Casita," a pavilion of specialty shops and community meeting rooms opened a few months later on 08/13/1962. According to a Los Angeles Times article of 08/12/1962, "The five new buildings in which these stores are located follow the Spanish California architectural theme of the square with rough textured brick exteriors, decorated with ceramic tile." Los Angeles architecture firm Burke, Kober and Nicolais "...designed the tenant building, the mall and the pavilion..." and "varied the facade of each store to express the individuality of the tenant." (See "31 New Store to Open Monday in Bullock;s Fashion Square," Los Angeles Times, 08/12/1962, p. N2.)
