The Sherman Oaks Fashion Square Shopping Center opened in 1962. The Broadway began leasing space at Fashion Square in 1977. Federated Department Stores purchased the Broadway's parent company, Carter Hawley Hale Stores, Incorporated, in 1996, and rebranded The Broadway Department Store at this Fashion Square location as a Bloomingdale's. Federated owned both anchor tenants--Macy's and Bloomingdale's--at Sherman Oaks Fashion Square in 1996. In 2002, the Sydney, Australia-based mall conglomerate, Westfield Group, purchased a half-interest in Sheman Oaks Fashion Square and renamed it to the clumsy "Westfield Shoppingtown Fashion Square." This name lasted until 06/2005, when it was shortened to "Westfield Fashion Square."
