Overview

The Prussian-born artist/architect Victor Hoffman designed this residence for Dr. Czapkay in Gold Rush Era San Francisco, CA. Hoffman was one of the city's earliest and most artistically able architects.

Building Notes

This four-story rowhouse had a ashlar masonry facade, the first floor given more visual weight by the recessed joints separating each course. All openings of the front fenestration had subtly segmental openings.
