Gold Rush pioneers Simeon Fisher Southern and his wife,, Sarah Lafferty Southern, erected a log cabin on their property in 1859, the first portion of what would become a well-known lodging and stage stop in Shasta County, CA.
An two-story, gable-roofed wing with a double-height front porch was added later.
