This makeshift bus transfer station served passengers disembarking from Amtrak trains on the site of the former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Depot (demolished in 1972.) At this time, the Santa Fe operated freight shipping offices there; this new bus facility was located on a parking lot to the east of the offices.
Due to high ridership, the temporary building was doubled in size in 1985.
