This $5.1 million, two-track passenger rail station opened in Bakersfield on 07/04/2000 at 601 Truxtun Avenue. The State of California and the City of Bakersfield shared the cost of construction. The facility also has served as an important intermodal transit hub, where passengers can transfer between buses and trains.

The California High Speed Rail Line was to erect its Bakersfield station nearby to this Amtrak facility.
