The history of the campus has been complex, with quite a few buildings added, torn down or renovated over time. Earthquakes have altered the campus's architectural history, particularly the 1952 quake centered at nearby Teahchapi, CA, in 1952. In the wake of this event, some campus buildings were torn down, and others renovated; by 1962, several new and remodeled buildings had opened on campus. In 2011, the campus was bounded on the south by California Avenue, on the east by H Street, on the west by Campus Way and on the north by railroad tracks.
