In 1957, Tacoma architect Robert B. Price designed the first stage of the Hope Lutheran Church, a portion containing the sanctuary, nursery, offices, and a large classroom. In a later building stage, the sanctuary was intended to become the Parish Hall of a larger complex. Glue laminated columns supported glulam beams spanning the nave, designed to seat 400. Folding partitions enabled the narthex to be opened into the nave, providing added space for seating.
