General Robert B. McClure designed the Bayonet Course, named for the 7th Infantry "Light Fighter" Division (the "Bayonet Division,"), on land bought by the US Army for a training facility. Fort Ord closed as part of the Defense Realignment Closure of the 1990s, and the City of Seaside purchased the former military land. The City of Seaside chose BSL Golf Corporation to manage Fort Ord's Bayonet and Black Horse courses between 1997-2005, and Seaside Resort Development, LLC, has managed the property since 2005.
