This plant and quarry was active from the 1890s-late 1920s. It produced limestone for use in copper smelters in the small CA cities of Kennet (later spelled "Kennett") and Keswick. Holt and Gregg operated multiple quarries in the area for the production of limestone. The area around Kennett produced very high grade copper ore and became prosperous around World War I when the price of copper rose. A slump in copper demand after the war ruined the small town. Production probably stopped at this Holt and Gregg facility by 1930. Later, the United States Reclamation Service submerged this once-thriving copper town when it built the Shasta Dam (1937-1945) and created Lake Shasta.
