The Southern Pacific line erected this bridge in 1879, but it was destroyed by flooding the following year. It was needed to transport guests to the Hotel Del Monte #1 which opened on 06/10/1880. This second bridge over the Salinas was completed before the grand opening. The Salinas River Bridge #2 was replaced in 1903.
