The Yakima Valley Regional Library reflected a stylistic formula--a Neo-classical box, bi-laterally symmetrical and set on high rusticated foundations--often employed for libraries financed by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Yakima Library had a projecting portico supported by Tuscan columns. The Carnegie Corporation provided funding for 1,689 libraries in the US through grants issued between 1883-1929; by 1910, or so, the corporation would exert extensive influence on the layout of each library built.
