Overview
The San Bernardino Opera House stood at 345 D Street in 1891. (See San Bernardino, California, City Directory, 1891, p. 139.)
In 1912, the Los Angeles architect W.J. Saunders created plans for alterations and additions to the San Bernardino Opera House. According to the Southwest Contractor and Manufacturer: "Architect W.J. Saunders (of Los Angeles} is preparing plans for alterations and additions to the San Bernardino Opera House.... An addition 74 x 43 feet providing a new stage will be built. The balcony will be reconstructed of reinforced concrete. The present front and entrance to the buildings will be remodeled and it will be redecorated and refitted. A $30,000 will be expended...."
