AKA: TWA Building, Los Angeles, CA
Structure Type: built works - commercial buildings - office buildings
Designers: Morgan Adams Jr. (developer)
Dates: constructed 1964
The developer Morgan Adams, Jr., and his brother James H. Adams purchased 10 acres of property on Wilshire Boulevard at Union Avenue in the late 1950s, with an eye toward developing it for office use. The TWA Building, erected in 1964, was the largest project built on this parcel by the Adams Brothers.
This rectangular, multi-story office building had a emphatically vertical design, divided into five bays on its long dimension. Orderly, rectilinear and rigidly corporate, it typified the look of Los Angeles skyscrapers of the early 1960s. The developer of 1545 Wilshire, Morgan Adams, Jr., (born 1915-2004), maintained an office there for approximately 40 years. Commerce Escrow Company leased space in the building in the late 2000s.
