Building Notes
Leland Stanford (1824-1893) was the first of the "Big Four" founders of the Central Pacific Railroad to build a mansion on Nob Hill. Heretofore too steep for daily commuting, Nob Hill became accessible when cable cars were first implemented on Clay Street in 1873.
