This block was erected in the wake of a devastating fire on 07/04/1889 that wiped out much the city's business district. Wood frame buildings were replaced by those clad in brick and stone. Seattle, WA, Spokane, WA, and Ellensburg, WA, each experienced a terrible fire in 1889.
