The Milwaukee, WI-based Miller Brewing Company erected this giant brewery in 1978-1980 in Irwindale, CA, a small town 26 miles to the east of Los Angeles, CA. In mid-2002, South African Breweries (SAB) of Johannesburg, South Africa, purchased the Miller Brewing Company form Philip Morris Companies for $5.6 billion in stock and assumed debt to become the world's second largest brewer. SABMiller as it became known, operated the Irwindale plant which in 2011, employed 600 workers and produced 7 million barrels of beer per year.
